diy log side table

Don't mind my slight absence, I've just been binge listening to the Undisclosed podcast… the follow up to Serial.
So addicted.
If you were a Serial fan, you should be listening too.
In addition to that however, I've still been finishing up the new bedrooms for our growing family...

The boy's shared room has a bit of a camp/wilderness feel to it.
I wanted to add some elements to it that were rustic and useful… and decided to go with a log side table.
Pottery barn kids sells one HERE for $200.
That seemed outrageous.
Especially considering the wood pile we have behind our shop.
SO I decided to make my own.
This was nice because I could choose my own size.
Their room certainly isn't massive, so i didn't want it to be too big.

Here is how the process went down the other day….

1 | Choose your log.

2 | Rummage through your husbands tools and find a hammer and chisel.

3 | Remove the bark from the outside of the log.

4 | Once all of the bark has been removed, use and electric sander to make the log smooth and free of any splinters.

5 | Wipe the surface clean and then seal with a protective finish… I prefer water based for easy clean up.
{We had excess from the loft bed that we built - win!}

6 | Apply a second layer of sealant and let dry.

7 | Bam! Finished.

I would say that from start to finish this took me about two hours.
I hammered it out during one of Beckam's naps last week.
AND I am super happy with how it turned out… especially since it cost me zero dollars.

Stay tuned for the DIY loft bed tutorial hopefully sometime next week.

oh hey, friday | big belly, harvest and boys' bedroom reno sneak peek

Bam! It's Friday.
I'm not even a little bit mad about it.
My day entails a trip to the big ol' city of Twin Falls.
A little day trip with my littlest fellas - fingers crossed they are on their best behavior.

Here is what else we've been up to this week...

1 | 28 weeks
And just like that I'm in my third trimester.
I am really starting to embrace this fall pregnancy thing.
Stretchy pants and a cardigan everyday?
Yes. Please.

I had the pleasure of chugging some GlucoCrush yesterday too.
Gals - if you have the option… always go for lemon-lime.
It's like a syrupy sprite, and wasn't that bad.
I didn't really savor it however.
It was chugged in approximately 23 seconds.
The little babe was extra active afterwards, on a bit of sugar high.

During my appointment my doctor informed me that I am measuring at 32 weeks.
What the?
My questions to him… "is this baby huge, or am I just fat?"
His answer… "neither, it's just his position."
I seem to carry my babies really out in front, as apposed to up under the ribs.
And the measurement he takes is purely belly.
Fingers crossed this isn't going to be a 10 pounder.

I have been feeling really great and hope to keep being very active…
not like I really have a choice with my crazy boys though.

2 | i got my hairs cut
All of them in fact.
By quite a few inches.
It was way past due, and I'm glad to have it a bit healthier now.

 3 | harvest
Things just got real around here.
Harvest has started, and won't end for a while.
We had to dig some early sugar beets this week, and hammered them out real quick like.
Now we finish up with our final cutting of hay before we dig the remainder of the beets until the end of October.
Then corn.
And Bam!
Done. For. The. Year.
It's going to be a lot of long hours for my farmer, but it always seems to just fly by!
Especially when he has me in the tractor with him…
I mean, taking selfies while trying to copy the other's expression really passes the time.

 4 | sneak peek
The boy's shared big boy room is almost done!
I've got a couple of diy posts to write up, and a few final details to add to the room,
BUT I am loving it!
Here is a little sneak peek of one corner of the room.
I painted that little piece of tree artwork this week.
If it looks like it was done in 30 minutes, that's because it was.

5 | sleep habits
Speaking of the boys' new room…
they have been sleeping like champs!
Before they shared a room, there was a lot of post bedtime shenanigans.
Always getting out of bed.
I swear they must have just been lonely, because now after I tell them goodnight, they stay put.
It's a miracle.
If only they could learn to share their toys, I would be the happiest gal around.

OK friends, now it's your turn...

camping while pregnant | i want chocolate

It is Wednesday night…
and I'm trying to convince myself that sitting on the couch and eating handfuls of chocolate is not a good idea.
Especially since my glucose test is tomorrow.
There are few things in this world that are worse than the three hour glucose test after you fail the one hour… so I've decided to blog about a camping trip we took almost two weeks ago instead.

And by camping "trip" I mean we were there for 16 hours.
Half of which was spent trying to sleep.
In this tent:
With my farmer and these two:
And a big ol' pregnant belly full of these:
it is safe to say that it was probably one of the worst nights of sleep I have ever had.
You may have noticed that the tent was on gravel.
We were forced to move it there after we set it up on the nice cozy grass.
Park rules are no joke I guess.

We spent our evening out on the water.
We also roasted a whole lot of marshmallows.
Especially Brody.
And he ate exactly zero of them.
His poor Papa ate almost all of them for him.
There is something about a fresh smores when you are camping.
Am I right?
So yummy… or maybe that's just the crazy pre-glucose-test talk coming out in me.

After our night of "sleep" we were definitely the first campers awake.
We were also to only campers to start a fire.
Probably because the temperature would be increasing significantly from then until about 90 degrees.
BUT Brody had to roast a few more marshmallows before the trip was over.
Meanwhile Beckam drank his morning coffee.
We all made toast on the fire pit, ate some breakfast, and tore down the tent that took us 45 minutes to put up mere hours before.
And then… it was time to leave so my farmer could cut some hay.
This pretty much sums up how we each felt about going home.

thirty and a half

In case you've been wondering, I'm still struggling with naughty children 52% of the time.
I'm SO over it.
Luckily, instead of writing more about that again, I get to share with you a fabulous blogger who doesn't complain nearly as much as me {if ever}.

Ali from Thirty and a Half is such a doll, and I love her blog.
Here is a little bit more about her, via q&a….

Firstly - let's start out with your lovely blog. What inspired you to begin your blog?

Well, there was a girl that I admired whose blog I started reading and then I started reading a few more. I thought it was a cool idea and a fun outlet since I love to write. I never really cared whether or not anyone read it. It actually amazes me that people do read it and actually care about my life. The blogging world is a really cool community!

The name of your blog is Thirty and a Half. What do you typically blog about?

I blog about my life and everything that comes with it - boys, coaching cross country, my Mary Kay business and so much more. The name Thirty and a Half is inspired by my address. I figured what better name because this blog describes what my life is like living at 30 1/2. Plus, I like that it adds a bit of mystery since not everyone knows what the name means.

{my awesome family}

I am obsessed with following your Mary Kay journey. Tell us more about it and what you love most about it.

I'm glad you are obsessed because more recently I've worried that everyone is tired of hearing about it! I started my Mary Kay business almost 4 years ago when I was a college junior. I started for a discount and thought if I could make a couple extra dollars from close family and friends I would be a success. Now, I just earned my first car from Mary Kay and am working on promoting myself to sales director. My dream is to do Mary Kay full-time because I love the flexibility and the women. Most of my best friends are women that I wouldn't know if it wasn't for Mary Kay which is so weird to think about! And I know how much I've grown because of these women and this business, so if I can help other women experience the same thing I figure that is pretty cool :)

Could you share a little of what your daily life is like with my lovely readers?

My daily life.....well, it's not always the most consistent thing in the world. Right now is a little crazy since I am in the middle of the cross country season, although I wouldn't have it any other way. I wake up around 6am every day right now, so I can get to work by 7am. Oh and I walk to work since I live a block from my office! I work at the bank doing research about new technology that we should invest in and building the case to justify any expenses involved. I leave work around 3:30pm everyday and head straight to cross country practice. Then I get to spend a couple of hours running with my kids and/or yelling at them when they act up. My evenings vary a lot - sometimes I spend time with the boyfriend...sometimes I hang out with my parents...sometimes I work my Mary Kay business....sometimes I just curl up in bed after I make dinner and read a book. And I usually binge watch some Netflix before bed. Weekends are a fun balance of family time, cross country, Mary Kay, church, and the boyfriend. My life sounds super exciting doesn't it?!
{sometimes my brother decides to surprise the team by showing up unexpectedly on race day}

{our girls' team ran really well at the Geico Invitational}

When you're not blogging, what other things do you like to do?

Well...I love running. I haven't been running as much as I would like, but I'm hoping to get into a new routine. I don't run with my cross country kids every day so I struggle sometimes to squeeze it in to another part of my day. But I did run my first half marathon last year and I'm hoping to do my first full marathon next year! Any recommendations on a fun full marathon to run are welcome!
{after my first half marathon with my aunt, cousin and his friend}

I also enjoy reading, which I really need to make more time for. I read a lot of motivational books, as well as the standard romance novels. Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors (I know it's super cliche).

This is always such a tough one...

oh hey, friday | very exciting new things

Exciting things happened this week.
Let's not prolong it and hop right to it.

1 | 27 weeks
Guess who's 27 weeks pregnant?
And guess who feels 35 weeks pregnant?
Me. The answer is me.
The beginning of this pregnancy FLEW by, and these last few weeks have really been dragging.

Nothing really new to report except that he is getting stronger everyday, and he likes to show off his strength by contorting my belly into very strange shapes.
Or pushing on my pelvis… that needs to stop.

Next week I have my glucose test.
I'm already pumping myself up for it.
Don't barf. Don't barf.
Perhaps I need to stop eating chocolate covered almonds and coconut now too.
The struggle.

2 | it happened
YOU GUYS!
It really happened.
You may recall me posting last week about this loft bed we were going to make.
And would you take a look at this...
Isn't it beautiful!?
My farmer is talented.

The boys slept in there and shared a room for the first time ever last night.
And they did surprisingly well.
I mean… fell straight to sleep at 7 pm and didn't wake up until 6:30 am.
That's like a new record around here.
High five!
I on the other hand, didn't sleep well thinking that Brody was going to fall straight outta that bed.

I will do a "how to" post in the upcoming future for how we built this bed, as well as a whole room reveal once I get all of the details finalized.

3 | progress
The big boy room now has both boys' clothes in the closet, as well as all of the big boy toys.

I have been on an early nesting spree lately and donated SO many toys while the boys spent the day with grandma yesterday.

I also threw out all of our DVD cases and put just the discs in a cd book.
WHY have I not done this sooner?
Such a space saver!

With Beckam out of the nursery now, progress is about to go down in there too.
With three months until baby comes, I have a feeling that we will be very ready for his arrival.

4 | z & co.
One of the things I love the most about blogging is the people and companies that I have met and become friends with.
Recently I got the most darling package in the mail from z & co. with the best smelling candle and room spray.
AND would you look at what else they included!?...
A little something special for this little guy in my belly.
So sweet.
Love this blogging community! :)
