{oh hey friday | looking back}

First things first.
I've got a totally rad giveaway going on RIGHT now...
$180 + a pair of earrings + ad space.
If you haven't entered, make sure you do so!
Because YOU will probably be the winner.

Ok, now onto my "oh hey, friday!"

I was recently looking back at some of my old blog posts.
There are certainly some goodies that need to be re-introduced to my newer followers.
These bad boys don't need to just be tucked in my archives.
In fact, you should probably pin them for the rest of the world to see too.
Have at it...

1.| Brody's rustic and modern big boy room.
I love decorating.
There is something about putting pieces together to form a totally fabulous room, that makes my heart happy.
You can see the room tour pics here.

While we are on room re-do's... I think Beckam's nursery needs a shout out too.
Check out the rest here.

2. | Anyone a fan of birth stories?
All the nitty gritty dets from Beckam's birth are published here.
There is nothing quite like that first moment you lay eyes on YOUR baby.

3. | Did you know that one time I got stopped in the airport security line and questioned by the police because they found a bullet in my bag?
The post is titled, "a bullet, an obese lady & some poop."
It is certainly worth a read.
The entire post can be found here.

4. | Another fun fact?
I had an appendectomy while I was pregnant with Brody.
Talk about freaky!
Especially for someone who was already paranoid about anything/everything that could possibly harm my unborn child.
Scalpels and morphine didn't seem ok...
especially when soft cheeses and deli meats were nixed from my life.

5. | For my 28th b-day my farmer rented out a helicopter to fly us around for a bit.
It was all a surprise, and I felt like I was on the bachelor.
Or not.
Read more about it here.
And enjoy the pics of Brody as a teeny guy.
Beckam is now the exact same age as Brody in these pics.... not like you care. Ha.

{classy living | a guest post}

There are very few things that please me more...
than introducing my amazing readers to fabulous bloggers.

Today I am introducing you to Kate from Classy Living.
A truly lovely gal, whose blog I adore.
Not only is she funny,
but she eats some good food.
I'm generally hungry, or jealous after reading.

Lately reading her blog has honestly made me miss teaching.
{I was teaching 4th grade, just like her, when I "retired" after having Brody.}
If I were in 4th grade again, I'd totally want her for my teacher.

Girlfriend's got so many other talents too...
Like dancing. And compromise.
They do go hand in hand. Read HERE

Something else you should know about her:
Watch out. :)

Lastly, there's nothing like a good vlog to introduce you to your new favorite blogger.

AND that's enough from me.
Kate will take it form here.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hey y'all!  I'm Kate and I blog over at Classy Living.  I'm a fourth grade teacher by day and somehow manage to balance that with my life as a newlywed.  In my spare time, I like to cook and experiment with recipes that are naturally gluten-free, teach Zumba at some local gyms, and binge watch Netflix (OITNB anyone??)

I also have a tendency to be...well...paranoid.

Someone needs to find a way to un-install Google on my computer.  And let's be honest, while you're at it, you should probably also delete all capability for me to use WebMD and its dreaded symptom checker.

You see, I am a compulsive google-er.

Though it's a fabulous tool and I'm very thankful for the fact that so much information is available instantaneously at the tips of my fingers, I think it often does more harm than good.

Like the other night...

[in the shower]  Hey, I think my heart just skipped a beat.  That was a weird feeling.  No, seriously [hand to neck, feeling pulse] it DID skip a beat.  Oh my gosh, what am I going to do?  Okay, stay calm.  I'll just have Walker feel my pulse when I get out and he can tell me what he thinks.  [Walker doesn't feel anything] Well OF COURSE he didn't feel anything.  Nothing ever goes wrong when someone else is watching!  I guess I'll google this.  Umm..."heart skipping beat".  No, let's try "heart arrhythmia".  Alright google says I'm okay unless I pass out.  Let me just download this pulse checking app just to be sure.

What about some other google samplings of the last week?  By the way, "heart arrhythmia" was on there more times than I'd like to admit AND I can spell "arrhythmia" perfectly now, thankyouverymuch.

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency.
Headaches two days in a row.
Stiff knee.
Signs of blood clot in knee [based on the results of "stiff knee"]
Grapefruit and pharmaceutical interactions.

It got so bad that I spent a solid 20 minutes yesterday on the phone with my doctor, who then recommended I call my pharmacist to double check and see if grapefruit could be interacting with any medication (read: birth control) I am taking.

(For the record, you'd have to drink an entire liter of grapefruit juice for it to even remotely interact, so don't believe what you hear on the internet).

What am I going to do with myself?  Now THAT would be a question for google!

 - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Go and show her some love friends!

She's also a part of the $180 giveaway going on right now.
You can get entered here.

See y'all tomorrow for Oh hey, Friday!!

{recipe | soy ice cream}

It's no secret that we like ice cream in this family.
In fact, I don't allow the Schwan's man to stop here anymore,
because we would probably sell out his truck.

Also with Beckam being sensitive to dairy,
we try not to go out for ice cream since he can't partake.
But yesterday it dawned on me that I could make my very own ice cream...
with his soy milk.
Now, I know what you're thinking.
I'm a genius.
Probably not.

If you are sensitive or allergic to dairy though, you have to try this recipe!
I imagine it would work with any kind of dairy free milk....
almond, coconut, etc.
It's worth a try!

4 cups soy milk {i used original, but I'm sure flavored would be delicious}
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp cornstarch

Place soy milk in a sauce pan and whisk in sugar.

Bring mixture to a simmer over medium heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Remove from heat.

Remove about 1/4 cup from the pan and whisk the cornstarch in.
Whisk the cornstarch mixture back into the pan.
Add the vanilla now also.

Cover and let the mixture infuse for 20 minutes.

Cool completely {I got impatient and stuck it in the fridge after about 30 minutes} and process in an ice cream maker according to the instructions on the machine.

It was totally finished in the machine after about an hour!
And was super delicious.
We cut up some nectarines from our tree to eat with it.
My farmer liked chocolate sauce on his too.

If you do make it with variations,
let me know how it turns out!

{$180 giveaway + more}

We are making it rain up in here.
{Keep the real rain drops away, until the field is baled into hay. #farmproblems}

My truly lovely sponsors and I have some dope prizes to giveaway.
Any by dope, I mean sexy.
And by sexy, I mean ah-mazing!

For starters we are handing out 180 dolla-billz.
That's a lot of moola that I surely wouldn't turn my nose up to.

Secondly, the winner will get to choose any pair of darling earrings from Emma & Sophia.
Yes please.

And thirdly, a Big Spender ad space on A Fresh Start on a Budget's blog.
Not too shabby.

Today, I am going to be talking about 5 things that I need in my life...

1. Hoes.
Don't we all?
They get a lot of work done...
in my garden, you pervs!
Seriously - I'm real good at growing weeds.
I had grass all up in my veggies.
With a little assistance, and a few hoes, it got cleaned up real nice.
Allow me to be a bit braggy on my garden here,
with some pictures that very few people will care about.

2. Paper towels.
We ran out of paper towels the other day.
I lasted about 24 hours without, and nearly lost it!
I use them for EVERY thing.
Cleaning up after Beckam.
Cleaning up after Brody.
Cleaning up after my farmer.
This is how I spend my days.
It's a luxurious life.

3. Chocolate.
Actually, I have to force myself TO live without it.
I have problems.
I don't usually have sweets around, so at one point I was just going to the fridge and eating chocolate chips plain.
Oh, and if there is an open container of Nutella?
Consider it gone within a week...
even using a little baby spoon - which I do.
What is wrong with me?
So, no chocolate chips or Nutella allowed in the house.

4. Money.
Call me or worldly or whatever,
but it's pretty handy stuff.
Especially when it's free.
You are so very fortunate today because it's fairly likely that you'll be winning some coin soon.
Firstly, I am hosting a cash-money giveaway here on Monday, so come back to check it out!
Secondly, I am participating in a giveaway that is live right this second,
with a bunch of other super fab gals.
Check them out and enter to win!
soup of the day | beautiful things | p. s. my name is madeline | September FARM
east willow grove | elizabeth loves
harris heart to hearts | a life like mine
blue giraffes + concrete jungles | simply love | the farmer's wife | ribbon in the sky
a Rafflecopter giveaway

5. Hand cuffs.
Kidding, I could most certainly live without them.
But with my other 4, it just seemed fitting.
A little 50 Shades of Grey-esque.

Ooh, and obviously I could not live without my three handsome fellas.
But I figured that was a given.

Have a fabulous weekend homies.

{good news + better news | guest post from shoes to shiraz}

Good news.
Beckam didn't get sick from his chicken poo eating escapade.
Or from his other stunts...
He took a nibble off of a dish washer detergent pod later that day too.
Usually those can be super duper dangerous...
luckily he didn't get much in his mouth + it was a toxic free brand.
This child.
I might need some extra backup.

Better news.
I have a truly awesome gal for you to meet.
Deena from Shoes to Shiraz is the bomb.

One of my absolute favorite posts of hers is THIS one where she gives you a little tour of her family room.
Because, I am obsessed with looking at peoples homes, and how awesome they are.
{In the least creepy way possible.}
Seriously though, I want to move in.

Also, girlfriend's got style.
Check HERE and HERE.

Cool house pics. Cute outfit pics. Count me in.
Seriously adorable kids? Yup.
She is currently doing a series of posts called "What Love Looks Like."
It's great.

My point?
Check her out!
Time for me to shut it, and let her do some introductions now!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hey everybody! I'm Deena from Shoes to Shiraz and I'm a little bit nervous. Let's just put that out there. Kinda feeling like that first day of high school all over again. Will they like me?  Will I be noticed? It's an excited but scared moment.  Now I'm just being dramatic.  Nerves and unnecessary antics aside, here it goes: my very first guest blog post.

I'm just your regular, plain jane prairie girl who always dreamed of doing big and exciting things.  I always thought the grass would be greener somewhere else.  After I finished University with a major in French, I applied to a variety of places from the Caymen Islands, to Korea to France for a teaching job.
In the end, I stayed close to home....well actually, I stayed right at home, taking up a job teaching at my old high school, living with my parents and having my brother in my classes.
Yup, you read that right.
My very first parent teacher interviews were with my parents.  How often does that happen?
Before I knew it, I met the man of my dreams, was engaged and married and settled in a town just an hour and a half from where I grew up.  Still surrounded by the same green grass, or in our case, the same colourful fields of canola, wheat and flax.

Everytime I travel somewhere, I always get the sense that I come from a land that puzzles people. Saskatchewan?  Where's that?  Why would you live there?  True, there aren't many people in our province, with only just a bit over 1.1 million, which means our largest city only has close to 300,000 people. And yes, we have to drive 6 hours to the nearest Ikea, H&M, or NHL game. So obviously after visiting all these wonderful cities around the U.S and Canada, I do wonder if maybe the grass would be greener on the other side.
But you know what?  I'm happy to call this place home.  Sometimes I take for granted the breathtaking beauty of nature that surrounds me and the endless amount of sky that I can see out of any window in our home.  I like being able to witness the changes of seasons and appreciate the heat, as well as the cold.  It's a simple life but I wouldn't trade it for anything, not even for a closer H&M.

So, that's me.
Well actually, that's just a portion of who I am.
I'm always up to something and i keep track of most of it on my blog.
How about we end this guest post with a little game?
9 truths and a lie.
Now it's up to you to figure out if you know me good enough to guess the lie.

1 - When I'm upset at someone, I have trouble looking at them in the eyes.
2 - I have never seen a full episode of Seinfeld. Or Ghost for that matter.
3 - When I get ready in the morning I leave getting dressed to the very last. I like my pajamas too much.
4 - I need to clean the kitchen counters before bed.
5 - I go back and correct errors that I missed on my blog. It doesn't matter how old the post.
6 - I see the world in videos and music. There is constantly something being produced in my brain.
7 - I have never been to Europe.
8 - I use a thesaurus when writing my posts. I love words. Especially words like bejiggedty.
9 - Despite coming from a football crazed province, I know nothing about the sport and can't be bothered.
10 - I changed my name when I was 13.

There you have it. Let's see who can be a winner.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Fun fun!
Goodness. I hope number 10 is true.
I need to know. Like now.

{when your baby eats poop}

Beckam has a new found independence.
In general, I love it.
Even though it usually gets him into trouble.

Usually he finds mud puddles, backs right up to them, and takes a seat.

Or he gets into the spice cupboard.
Vanilla and almond extract seem to be his favorite grabs.
With sprinkles as a close second.
Luckily for me, he hasn't figured out how to open them.

The pots and pans are sure fun too.
He likes to make cymbals out of the lids.

He can seriously make a mess the fastest I've ever seen in my life.
Toys strewn EVERY where in a matter of seconds.
I spend a majority of my day cleaning up.

Today was a special day though.
Today, he found chicken poop outside.
And then decided it would be a good idea to EAT it!

I nearly vomited.
And so did he.
Apparently it didn't taste like he had anticipated.

I quickly swiped his mouth and tongue with my hand and spread the poo on his shirt.
{Not my brightest moment, but at least it wasn't IN his mouth.}
I then took him inside and washed him down thoroughly.

I proceeded to give him a snack and put him down for a nap.
When he woke up I got a little nervous thinking of Brody's E. coli scare with cow manure,
and so I did a quick google search.
{Because that's the best place to go for all of your medical needs/advice?}
That search prompted me to call the pediatrician's office right away.
In which they told me to call poison control.
What the?

Long story longer,
he shouldn't get any diseases from this.
However, he may have some bacteria in him,
that could cause nausea/vomiting/diarrhea.

We've already been fighting colds over here for about a week now,
so that doesn't sound like much fun.
Poor guy.
I guess that's what happens when you eat poop.
Hopefully the lesson has been learned:
anything that comes from chickens is not edible.
{he's pretty severely allergic to eggs.}

{this picture...}

This picture...
it captures my boys so perfectly.
Would you like to take a closer look?
Probably not.
But, just roll with it.

Ok, first - let's look at Brody.
Clearly he adores his little brother.
I mean, you don't smile like that at someone you don't love to pieces.

It also shows how feisty he is...
Hand holding, turned wrist squeezing, turned "I'm going to pinch your fingers off."
Actually, come to think of it, maybe he's not even smiling at Beckam.
He might be going in to bite his ear.

Now Beckam.
Let's start off with the fact that he is the one on the chair...
in which he climbed up on all by himself.
He's a monkey.
And very proud of it.

Next, that smile.
He is most always happy.
Or indifferent.
But generally happy.

He must be funny.
Brody is cracking up.
I certainly can't understand half of what he is saying,
but perhaps Brody has it down.

And now now both boys.
That glow behind them...
just like little angels.
It's a farce.
At least 52% of the time.
Just watch THIS video from my instagram.
You'll see what I mean.

But seriously...
they are precious.
And they are boys.
Rough, tough, emotional little boys.

Love, love, love them!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Ok, my turn...
We just got back from a 48 hour vacation to the mountains.
Vacationing with my farmer's family is SUPER fun.
And tiring.
Let me just share a list of things that we accomplished in our short 2 days of vacay:

1. | Jet-skiing.
What's more fun than flying across the top of the water on a 60 degree day while it rains?
Probably lots of things.
But considering we forked over the moola to rent these bad boys,
nothing was stopping us.
Us gals made it back the beach just in time to pack up our goods and throw the kids in the car before a torrential downpour.
I wish I was exaggerating.
The fella's still had an hour left of riding,
in which they proceeded to goof off and fall into the water.

2. | Pickle-ball and walks.
In between rain storms we made the minutes count.
We walked around the neighborhood and splashed in the puddles.
Pure joy out of the children.
Us adults enjoyed it too I guess. :)
After the kids were in bed, Great Grandma stayed home, while the rest of us headed to the tennis courts.
I wish I would've taken some pictures of our pickle-ball night, because it was epic.
Just picture me and my sis in law kicking some serious butt...
on like 2 out of 15 games.
We are all a bit competitive, and it made for some pretty fun and intense games.

3. | Tandem Biking.
I am addicted.
I had never been before, but seriously, it is so fun.
Three tandems + a couple of baby trailers = sore legs.
We all rode them from our house all the way around the local lake.
That's over 21 miles, friends.
In a mountain town.
That means hills.
My quads were on fire.
Luckily, at the end, we stopped in town and grabbed some well deserved ice cream/sorbet.

4. | Game Playing.
Don't think for a minute that you get to sit around in the down time.
That means it's time to play some games.
Sometimes even in a speedo.
{you're welcome}
After the babes went to bed, us adults played Peanuts.
{Please tell me someone has played this game before!?}
My hubby admitted to feeling anxiety while playing it.
It's a little high speed.
Picture multiple decks of cards, solitaire, heavy breathing, and hand slapping.

5. | Rafting
After we left our beautiful rental house, we couldn't head back to the farm quite yet.
The road home runs along a river that is great for rafting.
We thought ahead and brought our gear.
The grandparent's watched the babies and we took the three year olds on their first rafting experience.
We had some good white water and some dead calm water.
Brody loved it all.
He would squeal through the rapids and then say,
"those were wicked awesome!"

Needless to say, I could use a vacation after that vacation.
I'm glad we planned to get home right before a weekend!

Ok friends, get your link-up on!
Can't wait to read up on what you all are up to.
Have a great weekend.

{your newest blog favs | group feature post}

I have five lovely ladies for you all to meet today!
Go ahead and read three random things about them,
and then go check out their blogs.
Each one of them is awesome.
And pretty.
And funny.
You get the idea.
You don't want to miss out on following them.

Meghan is a girl after my own heart... with a little more follow through. :)
She has so many amazing DIY's like this patio furniture.
And to get to know her real fast, you should read these 10 facts about her.

Terin's blog is so fun to read. She has some seriously adorable kids and hubby she blogs about.
And I love that she shares her tattoo journey, since I'm too chicken to get one.

Karissa is quite an inspiration. You should definitely read about her stroke/recovery/strength.

Lauren is a hoot. Just a couple {of many} notable posts are the time she stole her boss' debit card and her adorable love story with her main man.

Chelsea is awesome. She isn't afraid to share things like before and after pics of bad acne.
I also love this post on "10 things I want to tell every teenage girls."
